How might we transform a small living space into a safe and social environment for your guests while covering your own needs?
When we are between 20 to 30 years old we tend to move from place to place. When we are getting settled, the last furniture that we get is the one that support social activities. First we buy the bed, then a table, a chair and so on. The result is a small apartment where the boundaries between private and social areas are not clear.
First aim of Nest is to provide social furniture, that can foster social interactions by creating a safe social space within a private space. That is why the armchairs are dynamic and can be moved easily in different positions. The backrest is designed bit higher so the furniture acts like a room divider that separates the space into a private and social area, also the higher backrest creates a safe feeling for the person sitting in it.
Second aim is to create a furniture that can be easily taken with the owner while changing living spaces. Many cases it is cheaper and easier to buy new furniture to the apartment than to send the old furniture from the last apartment. This creates a situation where a lot of furniture is being thrown away. Also moving from one place to another can be emotionally distressful, not just because of the management but because the new place doesn’t feel like home. One part of the home is the objects that become familiar to us. By bringing the furniture with you to your new place can cover emotional needs like: security, belonging, comfort ownership and privacy.
